Mike Powell, my good friend and photowalking buddy, experimented with his Canon EOS Rebel SL2 tethered to Canon EOS Utility 3. Sincere thanks to Mike for patiently helping me begin to figure out things that are software-dependent and things that are camera-dependent.
An iPhone or iPod touch can also be used as a remote control for tethered Canon and Nikon DSLRs, using one of my favorite iPhone apps called DSLR Camera Remote by onOne Software. Download the application to your iPhone, install the free server software on your Mac, and fire everything up.

I have an EOS1200D and am wondering which software to download to my laptop so that I can tether my camera. I have found the software download options but my camera is not listed. My laptop is Windows 8 and I'd rather not have to update it if I don't have to.
I was in for some surprises. Following that, I felt it would make sense to write some notes to make things easier for others by pointing to some tools and software that can help you try tethered shooting.
Canon users have the best deal, as they get their software for free, and it is a good package, that lets you do everything: index, edit and even shoot tethered. But there are options for everybody else that want to try this way of shooting, although some of them are commercial.
Adobe Lightroom, which offers tethered options since version 3, and Canon's software distributed with the cameras are the programs I use to shoot tethered. But there are others to choose from. Here is a list of some options.
Capture One Pro 6 is a tethering software and RAW converter for ultimate image quality. It contains all the essential tools and high-end performance in one package to enable you to capture, organize, edit, share and print images in a fast, flexible and efficient workflow. Head to the Capture One Pro 6 website to find out more.
Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 does not come with Nikon cameras, but is a full-feature tethering software package allowing full control of all compatible camera settings. It costs $145.95. Available for Windows or Mac. Check out the Nikon-Camera-Control-Pro-2 website for more.
Thanks, it was Google Backup and Sync for me too. I have the setting to ignore cameras and cards turned on, but apparently it is still checking, but no dialog popup. I'll have to remember to stop it and restart when I want to use the EOS utility, tether in Lightroom or use the new EOS webcam software.
Most of you are familiar with Adobe Lightroom and are probably already using it or have used it in your evolution as a photographer. Lightroom is available for Windows and Mac and it will allow you to tether with select Canon, Nikon and Leica Cameras. For you Sony, Olympus, Fuji andPentax owners, there are workarounds or plugins that you can purchase to allow tethering with Lightroom. As an example, Sony users can use the FREE Sony Camera Remote Control software to download images from their camera to the computer and then set Lightroom to watch the import folder and Auto Import the files into Lightroom.
That brings me to Capture One Pro 10. Also available for Windows and Mac, Capture One Pro has long been the industry standard for fast tethering and an extremely powerful raw converter. Capture One also has an app called Capture Pilot that will allow you to connect an iPhone or iPad to the software for remote viewing and even the triggering of your camera. Capture Pilot has a web option that will allow Android users to view the images but not operate the camera.
As you discovered, EOS Utility is not compatible with MacOS Mojave yet, and Canon Camera Connect is fairly lightweight. If you are serious about tethering, I suggest you invest in better software. For your Mac, Kuuvik Capture is excellent, and works well with the EOS R. Cascable is a good choice on iOS devices.
One of the best things about working in a studio is the ability to shoot tethered from your DSLR to your computer running Adobe Lightroom. The is especially nice for Canon shooters since all the software you need is included with your camera for FREE!
The best camera tethering software is designed for easy synchronization between PC and digital cameras. It contains functions for transferring images from a camera to your computer for further manipulations such as picture editing, retouching, and others.
These days, developers offer a huge range of software, from free options that come with cameras to more advanced programs packed with multiple features. Moreover, you can find great wireless tethering variants.
Verdict: AstroDSLR also has built-in tethering software. The way this works is that it allows you to send your images to your computer on a CD or other media. By using this software, you can see the images from your camera on your personal computer screen at home - and it's even possible to send them to your TV with Satellite TV.
The camera features updated Bluetooth v.5 and Wi-Fi (5GHz), so that it can be easily connected to a smartphone and networks allowing high-speed file sharing and FTP/FTPS/SFTP transfer. The camera can also be remotely controlled using the Camera Connect and EOS Utility apps, tethered to a PC, Mac or smartphone via Wi-Fi or high-speed USB-C. The EOS R6 Mark II also supports the automatic transfer of image files from the device to the image.canon cloud platform so users can easily share and print images.
Alongside the EOS R6 Mark II, Canon has also announced an update to its Camera Connect App which now has a new look and feel, as well as enhanced connectivity and a simple user experience. The v.3 update makes the app a central portal, enabling users to easily access other Canon software and services, such as the Print app or image.canon cloud service. From the app, Canon users can connect their camera to a smartphone or tablet to act as a remote control, or fine-tune images, download or share them while on the move and even download firmware updates for their camera. 2ff7e9595c
