The titles and descriptions of the stories in the store are a bit stilted, but the translations of the stories I read so far were okay. After downloading a story it becomes available in your Digital Comics Reader, which can be downloaded from this page. I found the interface of the Reader very easy to use and I was reading my comics in no time.
So, the short version is that comics will no longer be available on PSP after October 30 and, if you have any and want to keep them, you would be wise to get your download on before the end of the month.
I've got a longer-form rant about "Comics and Screens" brewing, but in the meantime, news drops regarding digital comics for the PSP. Link comes via a Time Magazine mobile news source, bouncing from a Kotaku link-- not sure who it is that inaccuracy attributes All Hail Megatron to Marvel. That's an IDW book, people...well, at least they didn't say Dreamwave.
It's new comic book day! And not just for retail stores. Today Sony is launching their new digital comic book service for the PSP. Comic book readers around the globe who own PSPs can purchase, download and read comics directly on their handheld gaming device. For now, just Marvel and Disney comics are available (no DC yet), but North American readers can start downloading in just a few hours according to the PlayStation Comics Twitter. Will you be using the PSP as your new comic-reading device? I'm old-fashioned and like my comics on paper, but I'll be dusting off my PSP to give this store a try.UPDATE 3:20pm EST: The comics store is now live in the U.S. According to a press release from Sony, approximately 550 comics will be available today, with additional content added weekly from here on out. Comics will cost $1.99, with select comics going for $0.99 and $2.99. You can also currently get Disney's Donald Duck and the Fussy Genie, and Marvel's Transformers All Hail Megatron for free.
The biggest 'hack' so far has been the manipulation of a web browser embedded within the PSP game 'Wipeout Pure', which can be easily coaxed into accessing the majority of Internet via a suitable portal. Jonathan Terleski was able to monitor the digital conversation held between his PSP and Sony's website when the browser in his game 'Wipeout Pure' would try to download new software from Sony via the Internet. Using a suitably set up DNS server, Terleski configured his handheld console to access his own custom PSP portal, instead of Sony's website, and then invited other owners to use his gateway to the web. The PSP Go lacks a UMD drive, but instead has 16 GB of internal flash memory. (This can be extended by up to 32 GB with the use of a Memory Stick Micro (M2).) Games must be downloaded from the PlayStation Store; a demo version of Patapon 2 comes loaded onto the system. The removal of the UMD drive effectively region-locks the unit due because it must be linked to a single region-locked PlayStation Network account. The PSP Go can directly download to itself, or users can also download then transfer games from a PlayStation 3 or the Windows-based Media Go software.
The PlayStation Store's "Comic" section premiered in Japan on December 10, 2009, with licensed publishers ASCII Media Works, Enterbrain, Kadokawa, Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Square-Enix, Softbank Creative (HQ Comics), Hakusensha, Bandai Visual, Fujimishobo, Futabasha and Bunkasha. It launched in the United States and English-speaking PAL countries on December 16, 2009, though the first issues of Aleister Arcane, Astro Boy: Movie Adaptation, Star Trek: Enterprise Experiment and Transformers: All Hail Megatron were made available as early as November 20 through limited-time PlayStation Network redeem codes. In early 2010 the application expanded to the German, French, Spanish and Italian languages. The choice of regional Comic Reader software is dictated by the PSP's firmware region, thus the Japanese Comic Reader will not display comics purchased from the European store, and vice versa.
Managing your PSP downloads is made easier with Sony's Media Go software for PC. Media Go is an update to and replacement for Media Manager. It's free, and can be a ...
For you PSP owners out there, you'll be happy to hear that a new firmware update is available for download. Why should it matter? Because the darn thing comes packed with a new feature that probably most comic book fans will find appealing: the Digital Comic Reader. The latest firmware update (v6.20) doesn't only give you the ability to read your comics digitally on the go, if that isn't your thing; the new update also allows folks to export video and photo playlists directly to your PC (which can only be done once you've downloaded the Media Go update, however).
Creator ramstudioscomics released this brush set online for free as it was their very first set when starting to paint digitally. That makes it an excellent choice for newbies who are hesitant to work with Photoshop defaults.
Sony has partnered with publishers such as 2000AD, Disney, IDW Publishing, Insomnia, iVerse, Marvel and Titan to release digitized comics on the PlayStation Store. This new application requires PSP firmware 6.20 for it adds a new XMB category called "Extra". The Digital Comics Reader application can be downloaded on the PlayStation Comics official website.
The choice of regional Comic Reader software is dictated by the PSP's firmware region, and cannot be chosen. The Japanese Comic Reader will not display comics purchased from the European store, and vice versa. So although a Japanese PSP can log into the European Playstation Store and purchase and display videos and games bought there, any comics purchased cannot be displayed.
This character design software makes 3D rendering easier than Maya, even allowing you to import real-world images that can be turned into digital models on your computer screen.
A selection of over 80 DC titles can be downloaded from PlayStation Store priced from $0.99 to $2.99 per issue that include Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World and Other Stories, as well as comics that are exclusive to PlayStation Network such as Free Realms, God of War, Resistance, and Superman/Batman.
Lots of PSP games (the most glaring example being Rockstars three Grand Theft Auto handheld games) are still missing from the download store. Also, the store suffers from similar problems that Sony had when other PlayStation titles offered up physical and digital versions: Physical games can be priced competitively, but its rare to see the same treatment in the online store. 2ff7e9595c
